This morning I woke up with energy, feeling really good. I started my day walking our trail that starts behind our house. The sun was bright but there is always lots of shade in the woods. Such a peaceful forest.

Part of my breakfast was a handful of wild plums that grow along the trail. They are small, the size of a ping-pong ball, deep purple in color. And they are oh so delicious. Can you imagine how delicious a small soft plum, the flesh warmed in the sunshine, and picked right off the bush would taste? It is a bit of heaven, truly. They will only be around another week at most and then just a memory. We'll go out tomorrow with a ladder and a tarp and shake the branches; the easy way to get the ripe ones :-)
I ate them until I was full and then picked enough to fill up my camera bag to bring home.

I also noticed lots of filbert shells, tell-tale signs of the robber blue jays that stipped both our trees a day last week. I hope they all have an abundant stash for winter. I think Walter and I must grow the trees for the blue jays, as each year as they start to ripen we know what will happen and we make no effort to net the trees.

And last but certainly not least, is a photo of my little Violet Summer; gosh I love being a grandma - or "meema" as she calls me. And the big news: Violet and Ethan will be getting a baby brother or sister come next spring :-)

she is such a little doll baby. My kids call my mom "meema", too. I thought we made it up at the time and now hear it everywhere. It's so cute!
Congratulations to all of you on the big news!

I wish I could be walking that path with you, talking and sharing. I'm sure you can understand the need every so often, to talk with a kindred spirit, one who really understands how you feel.
And I love plums!
